شهلا بهار دوست، سایت عصر نو: نام حمید اشرف با نام و تاریخ «سازمان چریک های فدائی خلق ایران» گره خورده است. سازمانی که ۸ سال بعد از بنیانگذاری اش در آستانه انقلاب بهمن ماه ۵۷ و بعد از آن به مهم ترین سازمان چپ ایران تبدیل شد.
حمید اشرف بعد از بازداشت بیژن جزنی و گروهی از یارانش، جزو آن دسته از اعضای گروه جزنی (یکی از گروه های تشکیل دهنده سازمان چریک های فدائی خلق ایران در سال ۴۹) بود که از این گروه بازماندند. حمید اشرف در جریان شکل گیری سازمان چریک های فدائی خلق ایران جزو کادرهای برجسته و عضو کادر رهبری آن بود.
بعد از ضربات اوائل سال ۱۳۵۰ تا ۸ تیر ماه ۱۳۵۵ که در حمله ساواک به خانه تیمی در مهرآباد تهران جان باخت، رهبر بلامنازع سازمان چریک های فدائی خلق ایران بود و در ادامه حیات آن نقش تعیین کننده داشت.
انتشار نوارهای صوتی مذاکرات بین سازمان چریک های فدائی خلق ایران با سازمان مجاهدین خلق ایران در سال ۵۴، چهره حمید اشرف را شفاف تر ساخت. برای شناخت جنبه های مختلف شخصیت حمید اشرف که در برهه ای از تاریخ جنبش فدائی و چپ ایران نقش بی بدیلی را ایفا نموده است، بر آن شدیم که یادی از حمید اشرف بکنیم و گفت گوئی را با فرخ نگهدار یار دیرین حمید اشرف داشته باشیم. ما نخست سوالاتی را در اختیار فرخ قرار دادیم و پاسخ های او به سوالات ما و نیز برخی از سوالات دیگر را طی یک گفت و گو ضبط کردیم.
